The students in the mentorship program will be awarded for their hard work and dedication to successfuly completing the 14-week mentorship program.
The students successfully identified a community problem they wanted to bring attention, awareness, and resources to help solve and from that exercise they created a group problem statement focused on what improvements they want to see in their community regarding this issue and presented it at a live Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU) meeting while successfully completing various coalition building exercises along the way.
The students were aided by leaders from Atlanta City Government, non-profit organizations, and corporations that they aligned with to form their coalition to assist them in addressing the community problem they identified. The students accumulated a total of 30 community service hours each by the completion of the program that will be credited to their requirements for High School graduation and included in their college application resumes. As part of the requirement to successfully complete the mentorship program the students completed a college campus tour of Kennesaw State University (KSU) as well.
Lastly, the students successfully wrote end-of-program essays to the next class of participants coming in to the program to let them know what they got out of the program, how it impacted their lives, and and what to expect as new participants coming in to the program. These same students will return to the mentorship program as Leaders-in-training (LIT) participants to help mentor the next class of students coming in the new school year.
