WSB-TV Channel 2 Anchor Fred Blankenship to Inspire and Mentor at Turner Foundation For Community Advocacy Event
Atlanta, GA — March 12, 2024 — The Turner Foundation for Community Advocacy is delighted to announce that Fred Blankenship, esteemed News Anchor of WSB-TV Channel 2, will serve as a distinguished guest speaker at the Mentorship Program on April 25th, 2024, hosted at Frederick Douglass High School in Atlanta.
Fred Blankenship, a prominent figure in Atlanta’s media landscape, joined WSB-TV Channel 2 in 2007. For over a decade, he has been the trusted face waking up Georgians as the anchor of Channel 2 Action News This Morning from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. Blankenship’s dedication to delivering impactful news stories has made him a respected and influential figure in the community.
Throughout his tenure at WSB-TV, Blankenship has covered a wide array of significant events, ranging from the COVID-19 pandemic to hurricanes. One of his most poignant moments came when he honored the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday by walking across the Edmund Pettus Bridge with the late Congressman John Lewis. This symbolic act commemorated the historic event where Congressman Lewis and fellow protestors faced violence for their commitment to civil rights.
Fred Blankenship’s exemplary work has not gone unnoticed, earning him several Emmy awards for his contributions to Channel 2 Action News This Morning and Channel 2 Action News at Noon. Beyond his journalistic achievements, Blankenship is actively engaged in the Atlanta community, contributing his time and efforts to organizations such as “100 Black Men of Atlanta” and “Leadership Atlanta.”
